Materials: pen, paper, three ring binder, handout, worksheet, Literature Textbook, quiz
Set:
Have a student read the objective from the board
Movie Genres. Connecting TV and movies to literature.
Genres are represented in most of the arts.
Procedures:
1) Do-Now (7 min)
2) Review Genres (7 min)
3) Introduce New Genres (5 min)
4) Nonfiction - read definitions aloud (10 min)
5) Read biography of "Lil' Wayne" and discuss elements of non-fiction(20 min)
6) Historical Fiction- read definitions aloud (5 min)
7) Read "The Battleground" and discuss historical fiction. (20 min)
8) Discuss narrative fiction and read definitions. ( 5 min)
9) Read from " Golden Glass" and discuss definitions. (15 min)
10) Take genre quiz (10 min)
11) If time permits: Begin reading "Sorry, Right Number".(10+ min)
Closure:
Restate the objective.
Review genres of literature covered so far.
Preview drama and genres to be covered in future lesson.
Assessment/Evaluation:
Objective: The student will differentiate genres of literature. (English 2.a.4, DOK 3)
Informal: The students will read and discuss various texts featuring genres(C) and the teacher will ask them questions and observe their responses.(M)
Formal: The students will take a quiz covering the genres discussed so far(C) and the teacher will grade the quiz(M) and record the grade. (D)
