Name:                            Robin L. Lewis

Subject:                         Biology I-Genetics (Day 7)

Period:                           2nd

Approximate Time:       50 minutes

Objectives:

The student will…

  1. Review the molecular structures of DNA and RNA concerning replication, transcription, and translation; how changes in DNA cause mutations and the significance of these changes; the application of DNA technology; and the significant contributions of well-known scientist concerning DNA and RNA. (MSF Biology I 5 a,b,d)
  2. Show their knowledge of DNA and RNA concerning replication, transcription, and translation; how changes in DNA cause mutations and the significance of these changes; the application of DNA technology; and the significant contributions of well-known scientists concerning DNA and RNA. (MSF Biology I 5 a,b,d)
  3. Recognize important genetic terminology concerning classic genetics. (MSF Biology I 5 d,e,f)

Materials:

Pens, pencils, eraser, markers, white board, notebook paper.

Set:

Yesterday, we looked at DNA technology, and today we are going to review:

  • the molecular structures of DNA and RNA concerning replication, transcription, and translation
  • how changes in DNA cause mutations and the significance of these changes
  • the application of DNA technology
  • the significant contributions of well-known scientist concerning DNA and RNA.

We will prepare for your quiz by reviewing your notes and answering questions.  Begin question and answer section.

Procedures:

  1. Bellwork: Review your Genetics notes until this point.  On a separate sheet of paper write a specific question you have about any section.
  2. See set. Review student questions and the proceeding objectives.
  3. Pass out Molecular Genetics quiz.
  4. Collect Molecular Genetics quiz.
  5. Pass out Genetics Word Search.
    1. Allow students to complete the worksheet on their own time.  Due Friday for a grade.

Closure:

Today we reviewed the molecular structures of DNA and RNA concerning replication, transcription, and translation; DNA mutations and the significance of these changes; the application of DNA technology; and the significant contributions of well-known scientist concerning DNA and RNA.  Tomorrow we will look begin classical genetics.  We will also learn how to draw and analyze a Punnett square.  Keep working on your Word Search until the bell rings. You will have more time to work on this sheet later.

Assessment/Evaluation:

Objective: Review and show their knowledge of the molecular structures of DNA and RNA concerning replication, transcription, and translation; how changes in DNA cause mutations and the significance of these changes; the application of DNA technology; and the significant contributions of well-known scientist concerning DNA and RNA.

    1. Informal: The teacher will listen and gauge student response (M) from review questions (C).
    2. Formal:

                                         i.    Teacher will give a quiz concerning the molecular structures of DNA and RNA concerning replication, transcription, and translation; how changes in DNA cause mutations and the significance of these changes; the application of DNA technology; and the significant contributions of well-known scientist concerning DNA and RNA (C).  The quiz will be graded (M) and recorded in the gradebook (D).
