Name:  Peter Nelson

Subject: Biology I (Ecology)
Period: 3rd

Approximate Time: 50 minutes

Objectives:

1. The student will demonstrate acquired knowledge in energy and biogeochemical cycles through a midterm test (Biology 7.a.b)

Materials:

Tests, writing utensils, whiteboard, whiteboard markers.

Set:

What questions do you have that I can answer before I hand out the tests? Answer the questions. State the objective and explain that if time permits, biomes will be discussed briefly.

Procedure:

1. Before you hand out the tests go over the procedure. Write on board while they are thinking of questions for the bell ringer.

    - Absolutely no talking while people are taking the test. If you finish early, double check every answer. After you do that, work on homework for other classes. If you have no homework, pick a biome, read about it, and write down the main characteristics of it.

    - NO CHEATING

2. Allow enough time for everyone to finish, try to keep it around 30 minutes.

3. If there is time at the end of class have each student pick one biome and point of the key features of it. Include

    *  What the climate of the region is like.

    * Where each biome is found and and what its geography is like

    * The special adaptations of the vegetation.

    * The types of animals found in the biome and their physical and behavioral adaptations to their environment.

Closure: What questions do you have concerning the test? You all did an excellent job today keeping quiet and keeping on task so I will put some gems in the jar for you. Who thinks they got the extra credit questions right? Give answers. Ok, well tomorrow we will be talking about land biomes as well as some of the adaptations that the organisms in them have because of the environment. Can anyone think of any examples? How do we depend on our environment? Dismiss class at bell.

Assessment/Evaluation:

1. The student will demonstrate acquired knowledge in energy and biogeochemical cycles through a midterm test (Biology 7.a.b)

Formal: The teacher will administer a test that will be collected, graded, and recorded in the grade book.
