Mr. Nelson    Biology I    Approximate Time: 50 minutes

Objective:

The student will identify the rules and procedures for the Biology I classroom.

Materials: Writing utensils, paper, whiteboard, whiteboard markers, overhead quiz.

Bell work:

What does the word “respect” mean to you? Give an example of a time you were respected and when you respected someone else. Also give an example of a time when you were disrespected and a time you disrespected someone else.

Set:

Address the bell work. Also give examples from your life. Explain that respect can come in various forms. Lighter ones, and others more serious “your not good enough” “you can’t do it” etc. Have the students come up with examples of respect in the classroom. Listen to their examples. Explain that today you will be talking about the rules and procedures in the classroom and their importance. All of us headed towards a common goal. It is unacceptable for one or two kids to pull everyone else down. Reiterate that all of them will succeed if they get on board and work. Success or lack thereof is not determined by lack of strength, intelligence, or ability, but rather a lack of will.

Procedure:

1.    Pass out syllabus packet

2.    Go over rules, rewards, and other pertinent information.

3.    Go over all procedures. Have the students model all of the right ways to do things and you model the wrong way to do things.

4.    Quiz on what you have talked about so far.

Closure:

Today we went over the rules and procedures for biology I. Verbal review. Preview the next lesson (pretest).

Assessment/Evaluation:

Formal: The teacher will administer (M) a graded quiz on the rules and procedures (C) that will be recorded in the grade book (D).

Informal: Using visual and verbal feedback, (M) the teacher will monitor student progress on the rules and procedures (C).
